The title featured the work of at least six composers from SEGA, including yourself, Kenichi Tokoi, Fumie Kumatani, Hideaki Kobayashi, Takahito Eguchi, and Mariko Nanba. Thank you very much for taking the time to speak with us about the music featured in Sonic Unleashed (also known as Sonic World Adventure in Japan). Hit the jump for our interview with SEGA’s Tomoya Ohtani. Here’s hoping that they kept this up with Sonic and the Black Knight which was just released! He acknowledges that the team took a different approach with Sonic Unleashed in terms of both scale and style, and even say she prefers having fewer vocal tracks in the game. Well, I loved it so much that I looked into getting some time with Sonic Unleashed lead composer Tomoya Ohtani, and he has some interesting comments about the soundtrack. I think the huge team at SEGA delivered this with Sonic Unleashed, which I told everyone I loved in our review last month. This body of songs speaks to the many colours of change, letting go, and allowing the world to come back into focus anew… again, again, and again.A good Sonic the Hedgehog soundtrack? Well, I know a lot of people enjoyed the peppy soundtracks featured in the Sonic Adventure titles, but I miss the old days of catchy melodies and memorable musical moments. My intention with this project was to reach for all the sonic texture I could, to broaden my palette, and do my best as a musician to capture the darks and lights of my human heart. Delicate strings of subtle feeling and layers of intimate, soft vocals give way to waves of cathartic joy and rising synths. As the wheel keeps turning, my eyes adjust and I see and feel the world differently. These songs are imbued with what feels like a number of lives. But in that openness, I found such beauty, such space to reimagine and reinvent, especially in these sounds and stories that make up my latest album. In her own words, Ajeet explains, “ Let It Breathe is an album born of a liminal time… the space between breaths when it feels like sand passing through my fingers each time I grasp for solid ground. At once soothing and painstakingly intimate, each track on Let It Breathe feels akin to a conversation with a close friend in times of darkness - gently pulling us into the light. As Ajeet gently ushers us to take a step back from the fast-paced nature of the world, each track further immerses us into emotive stories that centre around embracing sadness and reflecting on emotions and letting go.

True to word, Let It Breathe is a mind-floating effort in which Ajeet’s deeply contemplative soundscapes are brought to life with whispered vocals and haunting instrumentals. “Solitude was a treasure of the past few years, and a deep quiet place of healing and solace in an unsteady world,” says Ajeet on her hotly released album, Let It Breathe.
